The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the 17-member team for the Asia Cup 2023 on Monday. Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of selectors, announced in New Delhi. The selection meeting included Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid.
The squad balances experience and youth. It features renowned players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah, along with young talents such as Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma.
Two significant additions are KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. Tilak Varma, who impressed during his debut series against the West Indies, also received his first ODI call-up.
Ajit Agarkar mentioned that Varma’s promise was evident during the West Indies series. He highlighted that while 17 players are chosen for the Asia Cup, the World Cup squad would have 15 players.
Agarkar shared that Shreyas Iyer is a match-fit, but KL Rahul has a minor injury, which is why Sanju Samson is included as a backup.
