Tragedy Strikes Nanded Hospital
In a devastating turn of events, 24 people, including 12 infants, lost their lives within 24 hours at the Shankarao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital in Nanded, Maharashtra. This shocking incident has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders, including Sharad Pawar, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Chaturvedi, who are demanding accountability and immediate action.
Sharad Pawar’s Concerns
Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, pointed to this tragedy as a glaring failure of government systems. He emphasized the urgent need for a robust response to ensure the safety of patients in the future. Pawar expressed his shock on social media, stating, “The unfortunate incident of 24 deaths, including 12 newborns, in a government hospital in Nanded is truly shocking.” He also highlighted a similar incident in Kalwa Hospital of Thane Municipal Corporation where 18 people had lost their lives. He alleged that the government’s lack of seriousness had led to the recurrence of such tragedies.
Rahul Gandhi’s Condolences and Criticism
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his deep condolences to the grieving families and called the news of the deaths extremely saddening. In his social media post, he questioned the government’s priorities, stating, “The BJP government spends thousands of crores of rupees on its publicity, but there is no money for medicines for children? In the eyes of the BJP, the lives of the poor have no value.”
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Demands Justice
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra demanded compensation for the affected families and strict action against those responsible. She shared her condolences on social media, stating, “May God grant peace to the departed souls. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families.” Priyanka stressed the importance of holding those responsible accountable, saying, “Strict action should be taken against those responsible, and compensation should be given to the affected families.”

The Congress party also expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased patients and described this incident as a very serious issue. They called for strict action against those responsible and highlighted reports citing medicine shortages as one of the reasons behind the tragic deaths.

Congress party general secretary Jairam Ramesh demanded that Prime Minister Modi break his “silence” on the incident, as reported by PTI.
Arvind Kejriwal’s Anguish
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his sorrow on social media, calling the news of the deaths “very painful.” He questioned the government’s negligence, saying, “How can a government be so careless?” Kejriwal also criticized the political maneuvers happening while such tragedies occur.
Priyanka Chaturvedi’s Strong Words
Priyanka Chaturvedi, a member of Shiv Sena (UBT), condemned the incident in the strongest terms. She refused to label these deaths as accidents, asserting that they were the result of absolute negligence by the state government. Chaturvedi urged the government to prioritize its fundamental duty of serving the state over influencer events and foreign trips.
