Former U.S. President Donald Trump, seeking a second term, renews concern about India’s high taxes on certain American goods, like Harley-Davidson motorcycles. In his initial term, Trump labeled India a “tariff king” and withdrew their preferential market access in 2019, citing unfair practices.

If Donald Trump gets re-elected in 2024, he says he might put a similar tax on India.

During an interview with Larry Kudlow on Fox Business News, Trump critiques India’s high tax rates. He uses Harley-Davidson’s struggles with Indian tariffs as an example. He explains the challenge American businesses face due to these tariffs and India’s push for local manufacturing to avoid them, which he dislikes.

Trump raises fairness in trade relations, questioning why the U.S. can’t impose similar tariffs on India. He expresses frustration over inflexible trade talks, insisting on responding to tariffs with “retribution” or equivalent actions.

Despite legal challenges, Trump leads the Republican primaries and holds the majority of GOP votes as per national polls.
