Reunion of the Century: Biscuit the 100-Year-Old African Tortoise Rescued and Returned Home
Rescue Mission
In a heartwarming tale of rescue and reunion, Biscuit, a 100-year-old African tortoise, found himself in a bit of a pickle. The Parish of Ascension in Louisiana became the backdrop for this touching story when local animal control officers came to the rescue.
Distress in the Canal
It all began when the sheriff’s office discovered Biscuit in distress in the New River Canal, nestled between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The situation was dire, and quick action was needed to save the elderly tortoise.
Heroes on the Scene
Animal control officers Curt Trepagnier and Isreal Millet swiftly swung into action. With utmost care and compassion, they safely contained Biscuit, loaded him onto their truck, and embarked on a journey to bring him to safety.
Temporary Stay at Cara’s House
Upon arrival at Cara’s House-Ascension Parish Animal Shelter, Biscuit’s future hung in the balance. He was placed on a three-day stray hold. If no owner stepped forward within this time frame, the beloved tortoise would be made available for adoption.
A Swift Reunion
The clock was ticking, but Biscuit didn’t have to wait long. His heartwarming reunion with his owner, Lamoine Howard, unfolded in a matter of days. Cara’s House shared the joyous moment on Facebook, sharing photos and a heartwarming video of the emotional reunion.
Gratitude and Relief
Lamoine Howard expressed heartfelt gratitude to the animal shelter, thanking them for their instrumental role in reuniting the family with their beloved Biscuit. According to Howard, Biscuit had embarked on his unexpected journey when strong winds and rain blew open a back gate and broke the latch.
The Unexpected Adventure
In a touching Facebook post, Howard humorously shared, “I told my wife this morning (Wednesday) that I would fix it Sunday, and it would be fine till then. Biscuit had other plans.”
This incredible tale of rescue and reunion serves as a heartening reminder of the deep bonds that can exist between humans and their animal companions.
