Earthquake Shakes Delhi-National Capital Region
A powerful earthquake rattled parts of the Delhi-National Capital Region on Tuesday, causing widespread panic among residents. The initial assessment by the National Center for Seismology indicates that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.2 and a shallow depth of 5 km. The epicenter of the quake was located approximately 200 km southeast of Joshimath in west Nepal.
Tremors Felt Across North India
The earthquake, which lasted for more than 40 seconds, sent shockwaves across northern India. In addition to Delhi-NCR, tremors were felt in cities like Chandigarh and Jaipur. Residents rushed out of their homes and offices as the ground shook beneath them.
A Tectonically Active Region
JL Gautam, the head of the National Center for Seismology, highlighted the tectonic activity in the Himalayan region, stating that it is a highly active area with many fault lines. Identifying which specific faults were involved in this earthquake is currently under investigation.
Residents Urged to Stay Safe
Local authorities and the Delhi Police quickly responded to the earthquake. The Delhi Police took to social media to advise residents to come out of their buildings to safe areas but urged them not to use elevators. In case of emergencies, they provided the emergency hotline number 112 for assistance.
No Reports of Losses Yet
As of now, there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage from the earthquake in the pink city, of Jaipur. Authorities are assessing the situation, and residents are urged to remain cautious and stay updated on safety measures.

Nepal is located in one of the most active tectonic zones in the world, categorized as seismic zones IV and V. This high level of tectonic activity makes the country particularly susceptible to earthquakes, as demonstrated by this recent event. Preparedness and awareness of earthquake safety measures are essential for residents in the region.
