Dean’s Statement
Dr. Shyamrao Wakode of Govt Medical College Nanded expressed his grief, revealing that 12 children and 12 adults succumbed to various ailments, such as snake bites, arsenic, and phosphorus poisoning. He highlighted the challenges faced due to staff transfers and the inability to procure medicines from the Haffkine Institute. Patients, many of whom come from distant places, were also affected due to disruptions in the budget allocation.
Urgent Need for Assistance
Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader from Nanded, Ashok Chavan, visited the hospital and expressed deep concern over the situation. He urged the government to take immediate action and provide necessary assistance. Chavan pointed out that an additional 70 patients, referred from private hospitals in the district, are in critical condition.
