Dereliction of Duty Leads to Suspension
Four Bihar Police officials, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, have faced suspension following their failure to prevent YouTuber Manish Kashyap from interacting with the media during his appearance at a local court. The incident occurred on September 22, leading to charges of dereliction of duty against the erring cops.
Serious Lapse in Escort Duty
Rajeev Mishra, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP-Patna), expressed his concerns over the incident, highlighting the seriousness of the lapse in the policemen’s duty. He revealed that the suspended officers had allowed Manish Kashyap to engage with media persons while being escorted to the court.
Legal Action Against YouTuber
In response to the incident, a case has also been filed against Manish Kashyap at the Pirbahore police station. Kashyap had been arrested earlier in March for allegedly creating a “fake video” depicting attacks on migrant workers from Bihar in Tamil Nadu. Currently, he is in judicial custody at Patna’s Beur jail, following months spent in a prison in the southern state.
YouTuber’s Defiant Statement
In one video clip, Kashyap defiantly stated, “I am the son of an Army man, not of a fodder thief. Both my father and grandfather served in the Army. I will die but not bend before them. I won’t buckle under the pressure.”
Virtual Appearance Requested
To avoid similar incidents in the future, the Patna police have taken proactive measures. They have written to the Beur jail superintendent, requesting arrangements for the virtual appearance of Kashyap during case hearings unless directed otherwise by the court for his physical presence.
This incident underscores the importance of upholding the proper conduct of law enforcement officers and ensuring that individuals in custody are not given undue access to the media during legal proceedings.
