Originally planned for a six-month mission, Rubio’s journey took an unexpected turn. The Russian Soyuz rocket that brought him to the ISS was supposed to serve as an emergency escape vehicle. However, due to a leak, likely caused by a tiny meteorite impact, the rocket had to be returned to Earth. In its place, another rocket was sent up without a crew.
